We’re One in Christ
“In Christ's family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 3:28 - MSG
What a great big world we live in. Did you know there are about 8.1 billion people in the world? Of those, approximately 2.4 billion identify themselves as Christians, Believers in Christ. It’s amazing to think about just how large the family of God really is. And yet, regardless of where we live, what language we speak, or what our background may be, we are one in Christ.
Our differences are real. We come from different cultures and countries. We have different skin colors, languages, traditions, personalities, and life experiences. We may look different, sound different, and live very different lives. But none of those differences determines our value or our standing before God. The ground is perfectly level at the foot of the Cross.
When Paul wrote these words to the Galatians, there was division and prejudice within the body of Christ. In the immediate context, Paul was addressing the tension between Jewish and non-Jewish believers. Some were being told that they needed to follow Jewish cultural laws and be circumcised in order to truly belong. Paul made it clear that this was not the case. Faith in Jesus—not ethnicity, cultural background, or religious tradition—was what brought a person into God's family.
And the truth reaches far beyond that particular situation. In Christ, no social class, racial background, economic position, gender, nationality, or past failure gives one person greater standing before God than another. We don't earn a better place in God's family because of who we are, what we have accomplished, or where we come from. We all come to God the same way—through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the Cross.
Every Follower of Jesus Christ receives the same spiritual standing before God and shares in the promises given to us through His Word. We are not competing for God's attention. We are not more loved because we are more successful, more educated, more talented, or more religious. We belong because of Jesus.
Think about that for a moment. Wherever you may be today, there are millions of other Followers of Christ who are part of the same family. Some may live on the other side of the world. Some may speak a language you don't understand. Some may worship differently than you do. Yet you share something far greater than the things that make you different.
You share Christ.
This is our common identity. We are one—not because we are all alike, but because we all belong to the same Savior.
What a beautiful picture of the family of God. Different people. Different backgrounds. Different stories. One Lord. One faith. One family. We’re one in Christ.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the gift of belonging to Your family. Thank You that through Jesus, You have made us one—equal, loved, and welcomed at the foot of the Cross. Remove from our hearts anything that divides, elevates ourselves, or diminishes another. Teach us to see each other as You see us: cherished, redeemed, and standing on the same grace we all stand on. And may our lives reflect the beauty of a family made one because of what Jesus has done for all of us.
