Oh God, Help!
“Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help.”
Romans 10:13 - MSG
From time to time whenever I see someone struggling, I will throw up a simple prayer to the Lord. I say, “Help them Lord, they can’t help themselves.” And then there are times when I don’t know how to pray for myself either. These are moments in life when the only words we can form are a simple cry: “Oh God, help!” Sometimes it rises out of fear. Sometimes out of exhaustion. Sometimes out of the quiet ache of knowing we cannot fix what is broken in ourselves or in the people we love. And it’s good to know that when we cry out to God, He listens, He hears, and He answers.
In today’s verse, we find that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be “saved.” This is not a small promise. It is the heartbeat of God’s mercy. And “saved” isn’t just getting to go to Heaven. No, salvation includes rescue, deliverance, forgiveness, restoration, wholeness, well-being for the entire person. “Saved” is not reserved for the strong, the wise, or the deserving. It is offered to everyone. Everyone who cries out to God for help. It doesn’t matter if you are a seasoned Believer or trembling beginner, the invitation is the same, and it’s for you: Call on Me. I will save you.
But there is a warning in today’s verse. You see, to “call on the name of the Lord” is more than just speaking words. In Scripture, a name represents authority, character, and power. Calling on Jesus means turning toward Him with a surrendered heart—trusting His strength instead of your own, leaning into His mercy instead of your efforts, acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior. It is the humble cry of someone who knows they cannot rescue themselves. Oh God, help…
This humble prayer, and today’s verse, is a reminder that God has always wanted to save all people. His heart has never changed. His willingness has never wavered. His mercy has never narrowed. Anyone who turns to Him—anyone, everyone—will find Him ready to help.
So today, if your heart whispers, “Oh God, help…” know that He hears you. And when you pray for others who cannot help themselves, you are aligning your heart with His own. He delights to save. He delights to lift. He delights to answer the cry of the helpless.
Let this truth settle gently over your spirit: God responds to the surrendered heart. He draws near to the one who calls. And He saves all who trust in Him. He saves all who call upon Him. He hears your prayer. He hears you…
Prayer
Father, I come to You with the simple cry You never ignore: Oh God, help. Help me where I cannot help myself. Strengthen me where I am weak. Lift me where I have fallen. And Lord, help those I love—those who are struggling, those who are hurting, those who cannot see a way forward. Draw them to Yourself. Let Your saving mercy meet them today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
