Free Through and Through
"So if the Son sets you free, you are free through and through."
John 8:36 - MSG
There’s something fitting about waking up on the Fourth of July and hearing Jesus say, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Today our nation celebrates a kind of freedom—historical, political, hard‑won. But Jesus speaks of a freedom far deeper, far wider, and far more permanent. A freedom that reaches into every part of who you are. A freedom that doesn’t depend on circumstances, governments, or seasons of life. A freedom that makes you free through and through.
We live out our lives in five distinct categories every day—spirit, soul, body, social, and financial. And the freedom Jesus gives touches each one.
Spirit: Freedom at the Core
This is where true freedom begins. In spite of the fact that we will be celebrating freedom as a nation, there is a much deeper freedom for true Followers of Jesus Christ. Jesus sets us free in deeply personal ways. He breaks the chains of sin, guilt, and spiritual death. No more trying to earn God’s approval. No more living as a servant who fears being cast out. In Christ, you are a son, a daughter—permanently welcomed, permanently loved. Your spirit is free to breathe, worship, and walk closely with God without fear. You are free.
Soul: Freedom in Your Mind, Will, and Emotions
Sin doesn’t just bind behavior—it binds thinking, desires, and emotional patterns. Jesus frees your inner life from the lies that once shaped you. He quiets shame, steadies anxious thoughts, and strengthens your will to choose what leads to life. Freedom indeed means your inner world is no longer a battleground of defeat but a place where His truth reigns in you setting you more and more free every day. You are free.
Body: Freedom to Live Well and Honor God
Your physical life is not separate from your spiritual freedom. Jesus frees you from destructive habits, compulsions, and patterns that once controlled your body. He empowers you to live your life with self-discipline, rest, and purpose. Even your daily routine, eating, working, resting—can now be expressions of freedom rather than bondage. There is freedom in every aspect of life physically. You are free.
Social: Freedom in Relationships
Jesus provides freedom in our relationships with others as well. Sometimes we find ourselves in bondage to how we relate to others—fear, insecurity, comparison, and resentment oftentimes interfere. But Jesus restores your identity so you can show up in relationships whole, confident, and loving. You are free to forgive, free to serve, free to walk in unity with your fellow man, free to be a light in your community. You are no longer a slave to people’s opinions or expectations. Jesus says that you are free indeed. You are free.
Financial: Freedom from Fear and False Security
Money becomes a master when fear rules the heart. But Jesus frees you from the anxiety of “never enough” and the illusion that security comes from wealth. You can steward the resources God has entrusted to you with wisdom, generosity, and peace. You are free to trust God as your Provider—not your paycheck, not your circumstances. He is still Jehovah Jireh, your Provider. He has set you free from worry about life’s necessities. You are free.
Free Indeed—On a Day Like Today
On this Fourth of July, when things like festivals and fireworks will celebrate our national independence, let your heart celebrate something greater. Let your heart celebrate a freedom that cannot be taken. A freedom that cannot be shaken. A freedom that reaches every corner of your life. A freedom purchased not by soldiers, but by the Son. A freedom Jesus gives to you today. You are free.
Yes my friend, you are free through and through—spirit, soul, body, social, and financial—because Jesus has made you His own. Jesus has provided for every area of your life. Today and always remember that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. You are free.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the freedom that comes only through Jesus. Thank You that this freedom reaches every part of my life—my spirit, my soul, my body, my relationships, and my finances. Help me walk today in the fullness of what You’ve given me, celebrating not only the freedoms of my nation but the deeper freedom of being Yours.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
