My New Tent

For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven - God-made, not handmade

2 Corinthians 5:1 - MSG

It rained. All day. I sat inside my tent while the steady rhythm of raindrops tapped overhead. For a while, the sound was peaceful—almost soothing. But after twelve straight hours of downpour, punctuated by the occasional crack of thunder, I was more than ready to be done with that tent.

Life can feel like that sometimes. Our bodies might ache. Things might not work the way they used to. And if you’re blessed with enough birthdays, you eventually start looking forward to the day you’ll move into your new “tent.”

Scripture calls our earthly bodies tents—temporary dwellings, not permanent homes. Just as I folded my tent and packed it away when the storm passed, one day these earthly tents will be taken down. And when that day comes, God Himself will give us new resurrection bodies—perfect, eternal, and fashioned by His own design.

It’s remarkable how little time we spend thinking about what awaits us. Scripture speaks plainly about the life to come. We’re promised resurrection bodies, a place in God’s presence, and an inheritance that will never fade. Jesus said He is preparing a place for us—our true home with Him. What a moment that will be! As the old song says, “Oh, what a wonderful day that will be. Jesus is coming for me.”

Another song puts it this way: we’re headed for “the time of our life when the time of our life is over.” Think about that! The life to come won’t be the end of living. It will be the beginning of life as God intended it to be. Everything old will be gone, and everything will be made new. Our new tent—our God-made, everlasting body—will be glorious.

Today, pause and ponder these things. This world is not our home. We’re just passing through. Our earthly tents are temporary, but the new ones waiting for us are something we can joyfully anticipate. What a wonderful day that will be!

Prayer

Father, thank You for the promise of a new, eternal home with You. I am thankful that these temporary tents we live in are not the end of our story. Help me live with hope, with expectation, and with a heart anchored in eternity. Teach me to hold loosely to what is passing and cling tightly to what is everlasting. I look forward to the day You make all things new—including me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
