Waiting for the Lord

I pray to God - my life a prayer - and wait for what he'll say and do.

Psalm 130:5 - MSG

I’m waiting today. The car broke down, and it needs a part to get it fixed. So, I’m waiting. I’m waiting for the bill. How much will it cost? How long will it take? And why now? There are so many things going on today, and tomorrow a long trip is scheduled. Yes, I’m waiting.

Life is like that, as you know. Things happen. Life happens. And yes, God knows about all this, and He cares about all this. So today, my prayers are simple: Lord, help me get through all of this.

This is the kind of waiting that doesn’t just squeeze its way into your schedule—it settles into your whole life. There’s tension, like a rope pulled tight. It’s the kind of waiting that causes me to lean forward, listen closely, and deliberately hold on to God and His promises rather than drift away from Him.

Everyone knows that waiting is part of life. But as followers of Jesus, we have somewhere to turn in the midst of life’s uncertainties. We can bring our fears to God, hold on to His promises, and keep trusting Him even when we don’t know how things will turn out. For us, waiting doesn’t have to be passive time. It can become a time of active expectation—a time of staying close to God with our whole being: our thoughts, emotions, fears, hopes, and longings, while anchoring ourselves in what He has already spoken.

So, am I still talking about a car that needs fixing? Most certainly! But today’s verse reminds me that my entire life can be a prayer. Yes, even when things don’t go right. Especially when things don’t go right.

This is when I choose to cling to God’s Word and His promises, trusting Him as I wait for the situation to be resolved. It’s also a good time to remember all the times God has come through for me in the past and to reassure myself that He will be with me through this time of waiting, too.

Sometimes God changes our circumstances sooner than we expect. Other times, the waiting lasts longer than we would choose. But His faithfulness doesn’t depend on how quickly our circumstances change. Even here, in the middle of uncertainty, we can trust Him to walk with us.

That’s what your waiting can be. Not wasted time. Not empty space. But a life-shaped prayer—your whole being leaning toward the God who keeps His Word. You wait because He speaks. You hope because He is faithful. You stay because the One you are waiting on is the Lord.

Prayer

Lord, teach me to wait with my whole being—fully present, fully trusting, and fully anchored in Your Word. Let my life become a prayer that leans toward You with expectation. When the waiting feels long and uncertainty weighs on my heart, steady me with Your promises and remind me that Your faithfulness never fails. Help me trust You, not only for what You will do, but also for Your presence with me while I wait. I wait for what You will say and do, confident in Your unfailing love.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
