You Are Welcome Here

So reach out and welcome one another to God's glory. Jesus did it; now you do it!

Romans 15:7 - MSG

There is something deep within the human heart that longs to be welcomed. We all know what it feels like to stand on the outside looking in, wondering whether we belong, whether we will be accepted, whether anyone truly sees us. Yet today’s verse gives us a beautiful picture of the heart of Christ. He did not wait for us to become worthy before receiving us. He welcomed us in our weakness, our failures, our questions, and our wounds.

The word Paul uses carries a richer meaning than simply tolerating someone. It speaks of receiving someone, taking them to yourself, and making them welcome. It is the kind of acceptance that opens a door, makes room at the table, and says, "You belong here." This is exactly how Jesus received us. He did not merely forgive us from a distance. He brought us close.

How often, though, do we place conditions on the welcome we extend to others? We are comfortable with people who think like us, live like us, or agree with us. Yet Christ's example challenges us to move beyond comfort and into grace. The measure of our acceptance is not another person's behavior or similarities to us. The measure is the way Christ accepted us.

Think about that for a moment. Jesus knew every flaw, every hidden struggle, every wrong choice, and still opened His arms. He knew everything about us, yet He still chose to draw us near. That's the kind of love and acceptance He wants us to extend to others. We don't have to agree with everyone or approve of every decision they make to treat them with the grace and dignity Christ has shown us.

And there is a purpose that reaches far beyond simple kindness. Paul says this mutual welcome brings glory to God. Every act of grace, every open door, every hand extended in love becomes a testimony to the transforming power of the gospel. When people see true followers of Jesus loving one another despite their differences and imperfections, they catch a glimpse of Jesus Himself.

Today, ask the Lord to show you someone who needs to know they are welcome. It may be a neighbor, a coworker, a church member, or even a family member. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is simply to make room for them in our lives. Extend the same welcome Christ extended to you. Let someone know today, through your words and actions, that they are welcome here.

Prayer

Father, thank You for welcoming me when I had nothing to offer but my need for Your mercy. Help me to love others as You have loved me and to receive them with the same grace You have shown me. Remove any barriers in my heart that keep me from extending kindness, compassion, and genuine acceptance. Let my life reflect the welcoming heart of Jesus so that others may see Your goodness and give You glory. Teach me to open my hands, my heart, and my life to those You place in my path today.

In Jesus' Name, Amen…
