We’re Expecting!
“But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.”
Romans 8:25 - MSG
There is a kind of waiting that feels like expectancy—like the quiet, hopeful stretch of time before a newborn arrives. Something is growing. Something is forming. Something unseen is becoming more real with every passing day. Today’s verse says that “the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.” Just as the anticipation of a baby’s arrival creates change in us, so too is waiting on God. Waiting isn’t empty; it’s a place where God is shaping us, enlarging our hope, and preparing us for what He has already begun.
Expecting parents prepare a nursery, choose a name, and imagine the moment they will finally hold their child. We too wait with a similar kind of sacred anticipation. God is preparing a place for us—our eternal home. While our citizenship is in heaven, we live each day as pilgrims on this earth. Our time here is but a brief pilgrimage.
As we begin each day, we may not know exactly how God will move, or when His answer will arrive, but we sense that something is developing beneath the surface. Our waiting is not wasted—it is womb-like. God is forming strength, trust, and deeper dependence on Him.
As we wait on the Lord, we begin to expect even more. As we walk with the Lord, Christ's character becomes more evident in us. The Holy Spirit's presence becomes increasingly recognizable, and our love for Him and our desire to share Him with others continue to grow.
And as the days stretch on, our expectancy grows. Not because circumstances look clearer, but because God is faithful. He is doing something within us while we wait for Him to do something around us. We’re expecting—not passively, but joyfully—because we know the One who fulfills every promise.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the hopeful expectancy You place within my heart. As I wait, enlarge my trust, deepen my joy, and steady my hope in You. Help me sense Your nearness and remember that You are preparing something good, even when I cannot see it yet. I place my expectations in Your hands and wait with confidence in Your perfect timing.
