True Riches
“I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches.”
Psalm 119:14 - MSG
Oftentimes we think of riches as material wealth. Sometimes, though, we begin to realize that God has given us riches far deeper than anything the world can offer. As we mature in our walk with the Lord, we come to understand that true riches, those that bless every area of our lives, come from God and from the intimacy we enjoy with Him. This comes as we learn to delight in His Word.
There’s a quiet, beautiful shift that happens in the heart of someone who has learned to treasure God’s Word. Psalm 119:14 captures it with such simplicity: “I delight in the way of Your decrees as much as in all riches.” The Psalmist understands, and is teaching us today, that God’s ways, not the world’s ways, are where we will find the true riches of life.
It’s when our heart can say, “I’m happy in the way of Your wisdom… as though I were on a treasure hunt” that we are centering our lives on the true riches of God. This is the picture of someone who has discovered that joy doesn’t come from what they own, but from the God who owns them.
It’s not that riches, well, having enough, doesn’t matter. But there’s something far deeper—something learned through experience, not theory. Knowing and obeying God’s Word brings a kind of satisfaction that money simply cannot touch. Wealth can buy comfort, but it cannot buy the precious presence of the Holy Spirit. It can buy pleasure, but it cannot buy peace. It can fill the hands, but it cannot fill the heart.
God’s Word does what riches never can. It steadies the mind. It brightens the eyes. It reshapes desires. It teaches the soul what to love most. These are the true riches of life. When God's Word takes root in our hearts through His grace, we begin to experience the true riches of His Kingdom.
As we fellowship with God, as we read our Bibles, the promises of God begin to come to life in our lives. It’s a genuine blessing to be in God’s presence, to enjoy His loving touch. We find this as we soak in His Word. God’s precepts reveal life as it was meant to be lived. They illuminate the path, revive the heart, and anchor the soul in what lasts.
And this is where “true riches” begin. Not in accumulation, but in alignment. Not in having more, but in loving better. Not in chasing what glitters, but in clinging to what guides.
When God’s Word becomes your treasure, joy stops being fragile. It stops rising and falling with circumstances. It becomes rooted in the One who never changes.
Today’s invitation is simple and gentle: Let God’s truth be your wealth. Let His wisdom be your joy. Let His Word be the treasure your heart celebrates. Learn to enjoy the true riches of God.
Prayer
Lord, teach my heart to treasure Your Word more than anything this world can offer. Let Your truth be my joy, Your wisdom my clarity, and Your commands my delight. Shape my desires so that what You love becomes what I love. Fill me with the true riches that only come from walking closely with You.
