The God Who Cares

“God is good, a hiding place in tough times. He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help,”

Nahum 1:7 - MSG

The Beatles song “Help!” presents an interesting parallel to today’s verse. They said it wasn’t just anybody they needed. No, “Not just anybody…” It was a song the Beatles said was written out of desperation. The theme throughout the song was simple: they had come to the end of themselves and needed help. They were no longer able to “do life” on their own. They needed someone to help them.

For those of us who follow Jesus, we too find ourselves in need of help. Not just from time to time, but all the time. Life without Jesus lacks the purpose, meaning, and fullness He desires for us. God has the answers to our deepest needs, and He cares enough to recognize and welcome anyone who is looking for help.

A closer look at today’s verse seems to imply that God welcomes those who are looking for Him and ready to receive His help. Of course, He is God and He can do whatever He wants to do. But there is an important lesson for us here.

The chorus of the Beatles song says, “When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone and I'm not so self-assured. Now I find I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors.” Then they cry for help.

Perhaps in our younger days, when we thought we had it all together, we didn't think we needed anyone or anything. At least, we didn't think we did. But the truth is, we needed God all along. He was there, waiting for us to call on Him. And when we did, He answered. He recognized that we were looking for help, and He welcomed us with open arms.

Isn't it wonderful to know that we have a God we can go to? A God we can trust? A God we can invite into every part of our lives?

When we turn to Him, He draws near to us. He loves us. He cares for us. He becomes our refuge in times of trouble and our Friend in every circumstance. Yes, God is our friend. He is here. He cares. He is ready to help.

Do you need help today? Call upon Him. Open the door. Turn toward Him. He will warmly welcome you into His loving embrace.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being the God who sees us, knows us, and welcomes us when we come looking for help. You are good, and You are near. When our strength runs thin and our confidence fades, remind us that Your arms are open and Your heart is kind.

Be our hiding place today. Lift what feels too heavy, steady what feels uncertain, and quiet what feels afraid. Teach us to rest in Your care and to trust Your presence in every moment.

Thank You for being the God who cares.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
