Keep On Keepin’ On
So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up, or quit.
Galatians 6:9 - MSG
It was a rough start to the day. My wife was sick. I had been doing everything around the house for a week, and I was tired. But there were plants that needed to be put in the ground so they wouldn’t die. My wife, being a gardener, “needed” those plants to live seemingly as much as she needed her health to return.
So, I went and planted the hostas so they could thrive in their new home at a neighbor’s house. That’s where my wife had agreed to place them, so that’s where I put them. A few days later, the grateful new caretaker of the hostas arrived at our front door with an envelope full of money.
Okay, maybe not the best working example of today’s verse, but the principles are the same. I was tired. I felt fatigued and, quite honestly, didn’t feel like doing good. But when all was said and done, that envelope of tangible gratitude was a nice harvest!
Today’s verse reminds us that even when we don’t feel much like doing good, there is a principle at work: seedtime and harvest. From the beginning, God established this principle, and His Word assures us that our faithfulness is never wasted.
Today’s verse says, “…let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop…” And the last part, “if we don’t give up or quit.”
From a spiritual perspective, you and I are called to keep showing kindness, love, and faithfulness, even when doing good feels tiring, unappreciated, or invisible. We may not see the results right away, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t at work. Just as a farmer must wait through seasons of planting, tending, and growing before harvesting, we must learn to trust God while we wait for the fruit of our efforts.
And here’s something important to remember: God’s harvest may not look like what we expect, and it may not arrive when we think it should. His promise isn’t that every good deed will bring an immediate or tangible reward. Rather, He calls us to remain faithful, trusting Him with the outcome and the timing.
God knows what we need, and He knows how and when to carry out His purposes in our lives. Our responsibility is to keep sowing good seeds and not give up simply because we haven’t yet seen the harvest.
So, today, let’s just go about doing good. Yes, even if we’re tired or run down. Even if we feel like giving up or quitting. Let’s remember the encouragement of today’s verse and keep on keepin’ on!
Prayer
Father, thank You for reminding me that doing good—especially when I’m tired, stretched, or feeling unseen—is never wasted in Your kingdom. You see every act of kindness, every quiet sacrifice, and every moment I choose faithfulness over frustration.
Strengthen me today in the places where I feel weary. Steady my hands, settle my spirit, and renew my desire to keep sowing good seeds, even when the ground feels hard.
Help me trust Your timing rather than my own. Remind me that I can remain confident in Your faithfulness even when the harvest is still hidden beneath the soil. Guard my heart from discouragement and keep me from quitting when the work feels heavy. Let Your Spirit breathe fresh endurance into me so I can keep on keepin’ on with joy, patience, and hope.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
