God is My Hiding Place

God's my island hideaway, keeps danger far from the shore, throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.

Psalm 32:7 - MSG

As a boy, I had a favorite hiding place. It was safe. No one knew where it was. I could go there and enjoy the solitude that quieted my heart whenever I was sad. It was a beautiful place—a place of calm, where my dreams could soar into the clouds as I waited for peace to settle over me once again. Waves of fear couldn't reach me there. Years later, I discovered that God offers a hiding place even better than the one I found as a boy. Now He is my hiding place. He is my refuge. He is my solitude.

There is a reality we all face: life sometimes feels like waves rushing over us, threatening to pull us under. Pressures pile up. Emotions tighten. Trouble seems to come faster than we can respond. But there is a quiet, steadying truth for days like these: God Himself is our hiding place—not a distant shelter or merely a comforting idea, but a real refuge surrounding our lives.

In my hiding place, I was safe. It was a place tucked away, like my own personal fortress where nothing could harm me. There, I felt safe. The fears that troubled my heart seemed unable to find me. I was not exposed to the storms of life when I was there.

But as we grow older, life has a way of finding us. Today’s verse reminds us that we are hidden in Him. God is now our hiding place. He preserves you through trouble. No, it doesn’t promise a life without hardship, but it does promise that hardship will never have the final word. God actively guards your heart, sustains your faith, and keeps danger far from the shore of your “Island Hideaway,” as The Message so beautifully says. You are protected, not abandoned. You are carried, not left to fend for yourself.

And then comes the powerful, joyful promise: “God… throws garlands of hosannas around my neck.”  God doesn’t rescue you quietly. He surrounds you with celebration — with melodies of victory, with the sound of joy replacing the noise of anxiety. The imagery is stunning: God throwing “garlands of hosannas around your neck,” wrapping you in praise, lifting your spirit, and turning your fear into thanksgiving.

Today, let your heart rest in this truth: God is your hiding place — your secret refuge, your protector, and the One who sings over you with joy. You are surrounded by His care, strengthened by His presence, and held in a safety this broken world cannot penetrate.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being my hiding place when life feels overwhelming. Thank You for surrounding me with Your protection, guarding my heart, and filling my life with songs of deliverance. Help me rest in Your safety, trust Your nearness, and receive the joy You place around me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
