Good God - Bad Devil

“Don’t let anyone under pressure to give in to evil say, “God is trying to trip me up.” God is impervious to evil, and puts evil in no one’s way.”

James 1:13 - MSG

You may have heard someone say, “Why did God allow that to happen?” Sometimes we get the “players” mixed up. God is a good God, and the devil is a bad devil. There is definitely an enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but God is never the source of evil.

It’s so important in our journey with the Lord to remember that He is a holy God, and there is no evil in Him. Our mishaps, mistakes, and wrong choices can sometimes lead us into painful and difficult places, but God never pushes or lures us toward sin. Evil has no place in His nature.

You may recall the verse that says our adversary, the devil, roams about seeking whom he may devour. Yet sometimes we want to shift the blame for our own failures somewhere else. James reminds us that temptation can also begin within us. Our own desires can lure us toward something we know is wrong. Those desires can lead to sin, and sin ultimately brings spiritual harm and death.

There is also an important distinction between testing and temptation. God may allow us to walk through trials that test and strengthen our faith, but He never tempts us to fall into moral evil. Never.

In fact, James tells us that the trials we face can produce perseverance and maturity in our faith. God may not be the author of the difficulty, but He can certainly redeem it. Sometimes the very thing we wish we could avoid becomes the place where we discover just how faithful God really is.

So, let’s keep the “players” straight.

There is a real enemy, but God has called us His friends. There is darkness, but God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all. Jesus told us that in this world we would have trials and tribulations, but He also told us that He has overcome the world. And He promised that He would be with us always.

We are God’s children. We are strangers and pilgrims traveling through this world toward our eternal home with Him. Jesus has gone ahead to prepare a place for us. Whatever we face along the way, we are not facing it alone.

The goodness we experience in life is a gift from God. And sometimes, in ways we may not understand at first, even difficult circumstances can become a gift when God uses them to deepen our faith, strengthen our character, and draw us closer to Him.

So, the bottom line is simple for all of us today: keep the “players” in the game of life straight.

Good God. Bad devil.

When life gets difficult, don't blame the One who loves you. Run to Him. Trust Him. Rest in His goodness. He is not trying to trip you up. He is the One who is holding you up.

Prayer

Father, thank You that You are always good, always faithful, and always pure. There is no darkness in You at all. When pressures come and life feels heavy, remind my heart that You are never the source of evil and never the One trying to trip me up. You are my refuge, my helper, and my steady place.

You are the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Help me recognize the difference between Your voice and the voice of the enemy. When temptation rises from my own desires, shine Your light on it and give me the strength to turn away. When the enemy whispers lies, let Your Word speak louder.

And when I walk through trials, help me remember that You are with me. Use even the difficult places to strengthen my faith and draw me closer to You. Keep my eyes on You, Lord—the Good God who never changes.

Today I choose to trust Your goodness, rest in Your presence, and walk in Your victory.
