Finishing What God Started

What matters most to me is to finish what God started: the job the Master Jesus gave me of letting everyone I meet know all about this incredibly extravagant generosity of God.

Acts 20:24 - MSG

On a personal note today, I have read this verse many times over the years, and God still speaks to me about my life, my life in Him and what He has planned for me. There are occasions in life when what God wants might get sidelined for one reason or another. Of course, it’s by our conscious or unconscious choices, but we don’t always obey, do we?

Paul’s words in today’s verse speak with a resolve that stands firm against every distraction, every fear, and every earthly concern. Danger was ahead of him. Hardship was waiting. Yet none of it moved him. Why? Because he knew what God had started in him — and he knew what God had asked him to finish.

Paul understood that his life was not his own. His comfort, his safety, his personal plans — all of these were secondary to the mission Jesus had placed in his hands. His aim was to finish the race and complete the task. And that task was simple, to finish what God started.

But this isn’t just Paul’s story. This is ours as well. This is yours also. Every true Follower of Jesus Christ has been given something God planned for them to do. Before you were born, before you took your first breath, before you ever faced a single trial — God prepared a purpose for your life. A calling to respond to. A race to run. A task to complete. And at the center of that calling is the privilege of making Him known.

We are not here by accident. We are not wandering without direction. We are not living aimlessly until we finally get to go to Heaven. We are here to share God with others — to speak of His grace, to reflect His kindness, to point people toward His forgiveness, and to live in such a way that His work in us becomes visible through us. This is our earthly responsibility. This is our privilege. This is our joy. And we carry it until the day He returns… or the day we go to Him.

So today, let Paul’s words settle into your spirit. Let them steady your steps. Let them remind you that your life has divine purpose woven into every moment. God started something in you — something good, something eternal, something meant to bless others — and He will give you the strength to finish it with joy.

So, run your race. Complete your task. Tell the world about His grace. Finish what God started.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the calling You have placed on my life. Help me to see every day as part of the race You’ve given me to run. Strengthen me to finish what You started and give me courage to share Your grace with everyone You place in my path. Let my life testify to Your goodness until the day You call me home.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
