Choosing the True Road

I choose the true road to Somewhere, I post your road signs at every curve and corner.

Psalm 119:30 - MSG

It was a blizzard. The car was handling okay, but visibility was nearly impossible. For a while, those painted lines on the highway were all I had to guide me. I couldn't see very far ahead, but I could see enough to know where the road was taking me. It was terrifying, but I made it home because I had something to follow that kept me from losing my way.

Life can be like that. Blizzards come in many forms. Trials, tragedies, and traumas are a normal part of life. Yes, even for a true follower of Jesus. In fact, Jesus told us we would have difficulties in life.

There are indeed moments when the road ahead seems unclear. Weariness settles in, questions multiply, and the easier path often looks far more appealing than the faithful one. Yet today’s verse can become a very personal, very powerful declaration: “I choose the true road to Somewhere.” Notice that faithfulness begins with a choice.

Following God is not something that happens automatically. It is not a habit we simply drift into or a feeling we wait to experience. Every day presents us with crossroads where we must decide whether we will trust God's way or listen to the voices that encourage us to take the world's shortcuts, which often lead to nowhere worth going.

We may not be able to choose the circumstances we encounter, but we can choose the road we travel through them. We can allow our circumstances to direct our steps, or we can allow God's truth to do so. God doesn't promise to show us the entire road ahead. He promises to give us the direction we need to travel it. Choosing God's way doesn't mean life will always be easy. It means that even when life becomes difficult, we know where to turn for direction.

God’s Word helps us navigate decisions, relationships, temptations, and uncertainties. When His Truth stays before our eyes, we are less likely to wander onto roads that promise much but deliver little. That is why we need to keep God's Word before us, not simply as something we read, but as something that directs the way we live.

Today if you’re facing discouragement, confusion, or an important decision, don't allow those circumstances to determine your direction. Instead, plant your feet firmly on God's promises and choose His path once again. You may not be able to see very far down the road, but you can trust the One who knows exactly where it leads.

Prayer

Father, thank You for showing me the true road through Your Word. When other paths seem easier or more appealing, help me choose faithfulness and truth. Keep Your guidance before my eyes at every curve and corner of life. When I grow weary or face difficult circumstances, anchor my heart in Your promises and protect me from deception. Help me trust You even when I cannot see what lies ahead. Lead me each step of the way as I follow You.

In Jesus' Name, Amen…
