The New You Emerges
…anyone united with the Messiah gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges!
2 Corinthians 5:17 - MSG
A caterpillar emerges from it’s cocoon a brand new creature. The butterfly is new. The caterpillar is old. That is the reality of the New Birth that takes place in everyone who accepts the invitation to allow Jesus to become Lord of their lives. And there is nothing halfway, partial, or “slightly improved” about what Jesus does in a person. When you came to Christ, God didn’t dust you off, polish you up, or give you a spiritual tune‑up. He made you NEW. Completely. Miraculously. Eternally. The old is gone. The new has emerged.
This is the explosive truth Paul is celebrating in today’s verse. When you are in Christ, the old you is gone. You are no longer a caterpillar. You are new. Gone is the old identity. Gone is you trying to struggle through in your own power. The old you is gone. Gone in authority, gone in influence, totally gone. The new you has emerged—born of God, filled with His Spirit, carrying His life within you.
When the Word of God tells you that you are “In Christ,” that isn’t a label. It’s a union. A living connection. A brand‑new existence. God didn’t rehabilitate your old nature; He replaced it with a new one. The old patterns, the old guilt, the old bondage, the old shame, the old worldview—they no longer define you. They no longer own you. They no longer get the final say. And here’s the best part: This new life is both for now in the everyday and in the eternity to come. It is ongoing. In a moment, God made you new. And then, day by day, He teaches you how to live new. He gives you the Holy Spirit to enable you and empower you to live out the new life He has put in you.
Then you grow. You learn to walk out your daily life in the ways that God has already made true within you. Every time you choose forgiveness over bitterness, or purity over temptation, or worship over worry, or obedience over impulse—you are stepping deeper into the life that already belongs to you--the new you..
So, lift up your head today. The old is not hanging around waiting to reclaim you. The old is not limping behind you hoping to catch up with you. The old is dead. The old is buried. The old is gone. And the new life—God’s life—is rising in you right now. Your new life is emerging.
Prayer
Father, thank You for making me completely new in Christ. Thank You that the old life is truly gone and has no power over me anymore. Help me walk boldly in the new life You’ve given me—renewed, strengthened, and filled with Your Spirit. Teach me to live out this transformation day by day with joy and confidence.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen...
