The Fire of Love
Hang my locket around your neck, wear my ring on your finger. Love is invincible facing danger and death. Passion laughs at the terrors of hell. The fire of love stops at nothing - it sweeps everything before it.
Song of Solomon 8:6 - MSG
Some say that the Song of Solomon is an allegory about the love God has for the Church. Others insist it is the story of two lovers, a man and a woman who burn with love for each other. Either way, there is a burning fire that pierces to the innermost recesses of our souls, it is sincere love. It is God’s love.
This is the kind of love that does not waver, wander, or weaken. It is not casual, or seasonal, or convenient. It is covenant love that is fierce, faithful, and forever. This is the kind of love described in today’s verse. It’s a love that displays both affection and action, both the inner life and the outward walk. It’s a love that defines who you are. It’s a love that defines who God is. It is true love.
God’s love, true love, does not let go. It pursues, holds, and keeps with a strength nothing in this world can rival. It is the security of God’s protective, covenant love. God’s love is a jealous love. It’s a love that refuses to allow anything to harm you. His love is not passive. It is protective, possessive in the purest sense, and unwilling to lose you to lesser loves.
And then the verse reaches its blazing climax: “The fire of love stops at nothing…” True love is not merely emotional warmth; it is a divine flame. It purifies, refines, and ignites. It is God‑breathed, God‑sustained, and God‑powered. No human relationship can fully contain it, and no earthly force can ever extinguish it.
This is the love God has set upon you. This is the kind of love that marks you. This is a love that claims you. A love that burns with holy intensity. A love that will not let you go. This is God’s love for you.
Today, rest in this truth: You are held by the fire of God’s covenant love—strong, unyielding, and forever. Yes, it is God’s fire of love. Let it burn in your heart. Let it burn through your life. Let God’s love be who you are.
Prayer
Father, set Your love as a seal upon my heart and my life. Let Your flame burn away everything that competes for my affection for You and anchor me in the strength of Your covenant love. Keep me close, keep me steady, and keep me Yours. Help me to burn with Your love for others.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen…
