Celebrate Him Today!

This is the very day God acted - let's celebrate and be festive!

Psalm 118:24 - MSG

Celebrate! Be festive! Rejoice! Be glad!

“This is the day the Lord has made.” Today is not an accident. It is a gift from God. He has acted on our behalf. He watches over us. He loves us. He cares for us. He gave His life for us, and He lives for us. What a joyous reason to celebrate!

There is a special kind of inward shout that resounds with a silent yet powerful peace that says, “God did this.” Our hearts fill with excitement and gratitude. Our minds suddenly realize that what happened could only have happened because God intervened. God acted. God came on the scene. God showed us His faithfulness.

There are seasons in all our lives when we experience this. We rejoice because we know there is no other explanation. We look back and realize that God opened a door, provided an answer, changed a circumstance, or carried us through something we could never have managed on our own.

But God doesn't only act in the extraordinary moments. God is acting all the time.

The problem is that sometimes the world's worries become so loud that we fail to notice. Cares and concerns can draw our attention into the shadows until God's light seems dim. We become so focused on what is wrong that we overlook what God is doing right in front of us.

So, let's look at this day differently.

Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” The Psalmist wasn't simply talking about having a good day. He was making a choice to recognize God's goodness and faithfulness. Every day we are given is a gift from Him, and every day gives us another opportunity to look for His goodness and respond with gratitude.

Someone once said that every day is a gift—that's why they call it “The Present.” I like that. But there is something even more wonderful about God's gift of today. We don't have to know what the day will bring before we can rejoice. We can rejoice because we know the One who holds the day in His hands.

And we have even greater reason to celebrate because of Jesus. We are living under the New Covenant. Jesus finished the work the Father sent Him to do. Through His death and resurrection, He defeated sin and death. Our circumstances may change from day to day, but our ultimate victory in Christ does not.

God has acted. God is acting. And God will continue to act. That is why we don't have to wait for everything to go right before we rejoice. Yes, the world will give us plenty of reasons to worry. There will be circumstances that make us wonder and perhaps even doubt. But God…

I love those two words.

But God… When we don't know what to do, God does. When we can't see a way forward, God can. When our strength is gone, God remains faithful. His presence and His love are not dependent upon how our day is going.

So today, let's choose to see Him. Let's choose to look beyond the noise and notice His goodness. Let's choose gratitude over worry, faith over fear, and praise over despair. Let's find a reason to be festive—not because everything is perfect, but because God is faithful.

And one final thought: in one translation, the Psalmist says, “We will rejoice and be glad.” Notice the word “will.” It is a choice. So today, let's make that choice together.

We will rejoice.
We will be glad.
We will celebrate Him today!

Prayer

Father, thank You for this very day—this gift, this present moment shaped by Your loving hands. Help us to pause long enough to see Your goodness woven into our lives. Teach us to rejoice, not because life is always easy, but because You are always faithful.

Lift our eyes above the noise of the world so we can recognize Your presence, Your care, and Your steady love. Fill our hearts with a holy gladness that celebrates what You have done, what You are doing, and what You will continue to do.

Today, we choose joy. Today, we choose gratitude. Today, we choose to celebrate You.
