Carefree in the Care of God
“Look at the ravens, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, carefree in the care of God. And you count far more.”
Luke 12:24 - MSG
One of the things I love about my Bible is the “red letters.” They remind me that these are the very words Jesus spoke, words that still teach, challenge, and encourage our hearts today. And today, one of the things that all of us need to learn, or at least be reminded of, is the fact that we are cared for by a wonderfully loving Father. He speaks to us today through one of Jesus’ parables…
When Jesus points to the ravens in Luke 12:24, He isn’t giving us a lesson in wildlife. He’s giving us a lesson in worth. In value. Ravens have no barns, no jobs, no savings, no strategy for tomorrow — yet God feeds them. Ravens do not worry about tomorrow. They simply live within the provision God gives them each day. And then Jesus turns our eyes to something far more stunning: you are worth infinitely more to God than they are.
Yet there are times in our lives when the world tried to tell us who we are. Our identity becomes tied to what we do rather than who we are. Our value as individuals becomes attached to our performance. Our “ranking” in life is based on what the world calls “value.” But God sees us very differently. He sees you differently. He sees you as who you are in Christ. Worth so much more than the birds He cares for every day.
You are not an afterthought in His creation. You are His image-bearer, His beloved child, His treasured one. If He cares for the birds that have no plan and no power, how much more will He care for you — someone He crafted with intention, purpose, and deep affection. Your value in His eyes is not measured by your productivity, your possessions, or your ability to hold life together. It is measured by His love, and His love is immeasurable.
Worry tries to convince you that everything depends on your strength. Anxiety whispers that you must secure your own life, protect your own needs, and store up your own safety. But Jesus gently exposes the futility of that fear. He reminds you that no amount of worry can lengthen your life or guarantee your tomorrow. God does that.
This parable is about Jesus showing us the way to live, to trust. In Him we have a life anchored in trust, in peace, in the daily, faithful provision of a Father who never forgets His children. He never forgets the birds and their needs, and He isn’t about to forget yours.
So today, let this truth settle deeply into your heart: You are wonderfully important to God. You matter to Him more than the birds He faithfully feeds. Your needs are known, your life is seen, and your future is held. When you say, “God is taking care of me,” Heaven hears a victory shout — because having Him means you are held by the One who is always enough. Rest in His care. You are safe in His hands. Be carefree in Him.
Prayer
Father, thank You for inviting me into a life where I don’t have to carry everything alone. Teach me to rest in Your care, to trust Your timing, and to release every anxious thought into Your hands. Help me walk today with a quiet confidence, knowing You are near, You are faithful, and You are guiding me with love.
In Jesus’ Name...
